Meet our Veterinarians

  • Dr. Kate Oliver, DVM

    Dr. Oliver is a 1998 Graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and proud owner of 'Oscar'(Orange Tabby Cat), 'Kiko'(White/grey Tabby Cat), 'TinkerBell', and 'Burnadebt' (German Shorthair Pointer).

  • Dr. Markay Nyquist, DVM

    Dr. Nyquist graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Prior to attending veterinary school she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Texas and worked as a veterinary technician and laboratory research assistant. She grew up on the Oregon coast and moved to Texas in 2006.

    Dr. Nyquist's special interests include feline internal medicine, dentistry, radiology, and surgery.

    Dr. Nyquist has four cats; Milo, Zoe, Nala and Adora, and two dogs; Riley and Layla. In her time off, she enjoys exploring the outdoors, bike riding, yoga, trying new foods, cooking and relaxing with her husband Brian, family and friends.

  • Tara Maxson, LVT, Practice Manager

    Tara Maxson is a 1999 graduate of Texas A&M University with a BS in Biomedical Science. She received her Registered Vet Technician Certification in 2001 from Tomball College. Tara is the hospital director, with more than sixteen years experience in veterinary medicine, including over four years in emergency medicine.

    In 2014, she founded the Austin Veterinary Practice Manager Group, and is co-chair of the Advisory Committee for Austin Community College's Veterinary Technology Program. Her interests in veterinary medicine include critical care, anesthesia, and feline friendly handling. In her spare time she enjoys working on creative projects and traveling. Tara is the proud owner of her cat, 'Susie Bruiser'.

The OAH Team

  • Mandy, CVA, Technician

    Mandy is a surgery technician at OAH. She is from El Paso, TX and graduated from UTEP with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance Performance in 209 and moved to Austin shortly after. She then moved to Dallas in 2011 and embarked on her love with working with animals at City Vet Uptown until 2013. That same year, she returned to Austin and immediately started working OAH, started pet sitting for a company called Paws and More with her free time, received her CVA1 in 2016 and has been working with OAH ever since.

  • Liz, CVA, Technician

    Liz has always had a deep rooted passion for taking care of animals. This was first discovered when she started volunteering for animal rescues at the age of 12. Since starting work as a veterinary technician in 2014, Liz has earned her first level CVA1 certification, working on level 2 certification and will eventually pursue veterinary technician school to become a licensed technician. In her free time, Liz enjoys playing with her ferret, Artemis, snuggling with her snowshoe cat, G'yeon, working on her next sewing project, or at her home away from home, the stables, training her two Belgium draft horses, Epona and Sleipnir, for medieval jousting.

  • Mattie, CVA, Technician, Receptionist

    While Mattie hold a Bachelor of Arts in English from Angelo State University, it was during her time at Austin Animal Center she found her true love lies in helping animals. From there, she was very eager to start a challenging and rewarding career path in the veterinary field. Mattie joined the OAH team in December 2013. Mattie is the proud owner of an adopted rascal terrier mix, Kipper. In her free time she enjoys Austin as much as possible, staking out new eateries, collecting vinyl, hiking trails, browsing small shops, crafting, and seeing movies at Alamo Drafthouse.

  • Callie, Technician, Receptionist

    Callie started working at OAH in January 2016. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 2012 and has been working in veterinary medicine since 2010. Her love for animals is not only obvious at work but also at home with her two bullies, Kira and Marvin, her rescue mutt, Little Orphan Annie and her two cats, Amaebi and Houdini. Her dream is to one day continue her education to become a field biologist for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

  • Katherine, CVA, Kennel Technician

    Katherine has degree from Texas State University and Austin Community College in biology. At OAH she is a kennel technician. Her special interests include running, reading, scuba diving and art. She loves working with all types of animals and assisting with their health. Her personal pet is rabbit that she adopted from the Humane Society.

  • Keenan, Kennel Technician

  • Sarah, CVA, Receptionist

    Sarah began saving animals at an early age and knew she would someday end up working in animal welfare. In 2009, she began as a receptionist at a veterinary clinic and in 2013 joined the OAH team. After just a few months, Sarah knew she had found the hospital she wanted to be a part of. She is now a certified veterinary assistant and can't imagine working at any other animal hospital. She aspires to continue learning and thriving at OAH for a long time to come.
